If FleetNord vanished tomorrow, you would lose nothing.

Fleet software becomes the company’s memory. Here, in black and white, is what makes a FleetNord customer keep its system and its data whatever happens — to FleetNord, to its server or to its founder.

Six guarantees, written into the contract

1

Your data at home, every month

On the 1st of every month the platform builds a complete archive of your data — one Excel sheet per kind of information and a full JSON copy — and e-mails you. You download it and keep it with your important documents. You can also build one at any time, in one click.

2

Stand-alone software, not a captive service

FleetNord is complete software that runs on an ordinary server (Linux, no dependencies). An IT person can reinstall it elsewhere in an hour with the installation package, the guide below and your archive. Nothing requires our participation.

3

Hosted in Québec, paid ahead

Your data lives on a server in Beauharnois (OVHcloud), backed up hourly and encrypted, with an off-site copy. Hosting and the domain name are paid years in advance: the service keeps running even if nobody touches it.

4

Source code in escrow

FleetNord’s source code and documentation are deposited with a trusted third party. Should FleetNord cease operations, go unmaintained for 90 days or its founder be incapacitated, the deposit is released to customers, with the right to use it and have it maintained by whomever they choose.

5

A designated successor

A person or a Québec IT firm is designated to take over support if FleetNord can no longer provide it. The access keys (server, domain, e-mail, backups) are kept under seal and handed to them in that case.

6

Reversibility, no argument

At the end of the contract, for any reason: 90 days of continued access, a complete export and reasonable help migrating to the software of your choice. Your data is never held back.

Autonomy guide

The printable version to keep with your contract. It tells any IT person how to bring your platform back up without FleetNord.

Autonomy guide — FleetNord

1. What you hold

Three things are enough to rebuild your platform anywhere:

  • Your archive (FleetNord-archive-…zip): all your data. Built monthly in Settings → Data → Your archives, or on demand.
  • The installation package (fleetnord-x.y.z.zip): the complete software with its installation guide (deploy/INSTALLATION.md). It is handed to you at signature and at every major update; it is also in escrow.
  • Your access: the owner account of your platform (employee number + password) — keep them in your company password manager.

2. Reading your data without any software

Open the archive: the csv/ folder holds one sheet per record type (units.csv, workOrders.csv, parts.csv…). Excel, Numbers or LibreOffice open them directly. donnees.json is the complete copy, for a programmer or another software. README.txt explains the contents.

3. Reinstalling the platform (for an IT person)

Time: about an hour. Skills: basic Linux administration.
  1. Rent an Ubuntu 24.04 Linux server (2 vCPU, 4 GB, 40 GB is plenty for a 100-unit fleet) from any host; point your domain (or a new one) to it.
  2. Copy the installation package to the server and follow deploy/INSTALLATION.md: a script installs Node.js, the service, the web server (Caddy, automatic HTTPS certificates) and creates the company.
  3. Restore your data: tools/restore.js accepts an encrypted platform backup or the donnees.json of your archive (Settings → Data → Restore does the same from the browser).
  4. Sign in with the owner account, check units and work orders, re-enrol users if needed.

The software has no external dependency: no database to install, no third-party subscription, no licence to activate. Updates run with tools/upgrade.sh (automatic rollback on error).

4. Moving to another software

Every fleet software imports Excel or CSV files. The units, employees, parts, workOrders, pmSchedules, fuelLogs and meterReadings sheets cover the essentials. The reversibility clause of your contract provides reasonable help from FleetNord for that migration.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns the data?

You, entirely. FleetNord hosts and protects it; it does not sell it, analyse it for other purposes or ever hold it back.

What if the server goes down?

It is backed up hourly, encrypted, with an off-site copy. Service is restored on another server from those backups.

What if FleetNord ceases operations?

You keep your archive, the installation package is handed over (or released from escrow) and the designated successor takes over support. The guide above lets any IT person carry on without us.
